Come back every Tuesday for “The Bees Knees”, where I post the best quotes from my favorite movies, TV shows, songs, and books.

The first Glozell video I saw was “The Cinnamon Challenge”. Here was some crazy loud woman with one heck of an amazing weave downing a LADLE full of cinnamon and somehow not dying…I felt bad laughing hysterically but I couldn’t help it! I instantly fell in love with her and her vibrant personality.
I plowed through a few more of her challenge videos, including “The Wasabi Challenge” and “The Hot Pepper Challenge”, and –of course— “A Push Up Bra Will Help Me Get My Man”. I couldn’t get enough. She was just so lovable in her stupidity.
My sister and I share a mutual love of Glozell. And when we found out she was writing a book, we made a mental note to attend her signing, no questions asked. Well, I guess that note blew away in the wind…but when I opened my Christmas gifts from her and found Glozell’s book, Is You Okay?, smiling up at me between the ripped Christmas paper, I got instantly excited and jumped in that night.
Filled with everything a “Glo-worm” or “Glo-bug” or Glozell fan could ever want, Is You Okay?, is a gem of a book, filled with surprising inspiration and motivation to follow your dreams. Written as if Glozell was just chatting with you over lunch, Is You Okay? is an intimate look into Glozell’s personal life and how she got her start as an Internet-tainer.
A true and quite unusual success story, Glozell talks about her journey from filming “A Push Up Bra Will Help Me Get My Man” to her special episode where she got to sit down and interview President Barak Obama. Hers is a story that is not far-fetched or out of reach for others who are just as dedicated and resilient as she is…and it’s that message that makes this book pretty inspiring.
Of course, every success story has bumpy roads. “The Cinnamon Challenge”, for example, was a life-changing video that put Glozell on the map as one of YouTube’s most successful hosts…but it also nearly killed her…like, for realz. Easily her most popular video with 50,714,327 views and counting, “The Cinnamon Challenge” basically turned her into an overnight sensation…and helped guide her voice and message for the rest of her insanely crazy videos.
Also peppered with personal stories about Glozell’s family, love life (celebrity drama included!), and even a few family photos, Is You Okay? will make you laugh out loud with stories that are embarrassing, ridiculous, and relatable. She’s a shining, albeit strange, example of success and she continues to pump out videos and collaborations to this day. With 4.5 million subscribers to her YouTube channel, GloZell Green, Glozell has proven herself to be a true entertainer in every sense of the word…making millions smile and laugh one video at a time.
Over and out.
Looking for a new book to read? Check in every Friday for a “Bee Happy” post, where I share reviews of books I’ve read or other book-themed lists.
“On International Women’s Day, March 8, 2017, women and our allies will act together for equity, justice and the human rights of women and all gender-oppressed people, through a one-day demonstration of economic solidarity.”
To those women who came before me, my great-grandmothers, my great-aunts, and the matriarchs of my namesake, thank you for paving the way for us…for fighting to give us a voice, a place in the workforce, a pathway to education and success.
To those women who stand beside me now, my sister, my mom, my aunts and cousins, my grandmas, my friends and family by blood and by choice, thank you for continually inspiring me to be a better person, a better woman. Thank you for breaking stereotypes, for challenging the status quo, and for uniting together during a time when it would be so easy for us to fall apart.
For those women who will come after me, my children, my grand-children, my future nieces and friends, I hope you continue to stay strong, even if it seems impossible. Nothing will come easy, and it shouldn’t…their is nothing that strengthens you like fighting for something you believe in, and I hope you all have the chance to do that. Challenge yourself. Question everything. Dream BIG. Don’t fear the fire…become it.
And for those women in the spotlight who make conscious decisions to be strong and positive role models for women and young girls, thank you for showing the world that not every girl is obsessed with diamonds and glitter. Thank you for loving your bodies and for being open about not changing yourselves to fit into some stereotype. Thank you for encouraging young girls to read, get involved, and join causes that are important to them. Thank you for choosing roles that showcase women as smart, brilliant members of society and for opening our eyes to the women of history who have helped shape and mold our nation and our world.
Today I join my fellow sisters in economic solidarity. After today, I hope it will be very clear to see who runs the world…
For as long as I could remember, I’ve loved the art of crafting. When I was in kindergarten, I’d make books about my family and cover them with all the Scratch-n-Sniff stickers for added effect and experience. I taught myself to knit, crochet, paint and sew…and I still continue to explore new trades and teach myself new things (I just bought a wood burner that I’m super excited to learn to use!).
I grew up in a house that was decorated with handgoods from top to bottom. The ceilings of our house were painted, the closets were painted, the kitchen was decoupaged, our furniture was decoupaged. There were handmade cups in our cabinets, hand-painted art on the walls. Our Christmas tree only sported those ornaments that we made for our parents and handmade gifts were always preferred over store-bought ones.
When I started The Hob-bee Hive, I did it as a way to motivate myself to continue crafting and learning new things. I’d push myself to be creative, even when I didn’t want to be, and tried to learn from my mistakes and challenge myself see every day items in a new light.
As I started to learn and grow as a craft designer, I began to get requests for handmade goods. Amidst pushing from friends and family, I decided to open a small online store in the early 2000’s. I sold a few things here and there that I made as part of my collection of crafts on my blog…but my online store never really stuck. I never had enough inventory to keep up and I wasn’t motivated enough to provide what my customers were looking for…
But it’s time to turn over a new page.
After months of planning and preparation, I’m happy to announce the grand opening of Between the Pages, my official online ETSY shop featuring all kinds of projects and crafts inspired by my favorite books and stories.
This has been a passion project for about a year now and I’m so excited to finally see it come to fruition! I’ll be featuring and selling a few items I’ve promoted on The Hob-bee Hive recently, as well as several others that I’m super excited to share with you!
Though Between the Pages only exists as a virtual space right now, I’m hoping to eventually take my shop on the road and pop up in craft fairs around the area…and hopefully be able to meet some of you in person! 😀
If you haven’t already, head on over to Between the Pages and check it out! There will be much more posted there in the coming weeks, so come back often to see what’s new!

And speaking of February, Black History Month begins February 1st, a time to celebrate the achievements by black Americans and a time to recognize the role African Americans have played in U.S. history. As a tribute, I have a great collection of classic literature by famous black writers, coming your way every Friday in February.
And I know there are lots of other cooks and creative minds who follow The Hob-bee Hive, so be sure to Like us on Facebook and feel free to post your new recipes, crafts, photos, and ideas on our wall for everyone to see!
Okay, so I’m switching it up again (food stuff will come tomorrow)…but I just wanted to thank you ALL for making The Hobbee Hive what it is today! I know I couldn’t have done it without dedicated readers like yourself…so keep on buzzin’ around and we’ll see if we can hit another 200 🙂
So this past weekend I had some time to settle into my new apartment! It’s not 100% the way I would like it, but at least things are off the floor and put away.
So here’s a little tour of what my new place looks like:
After you walk in the front door, the first thing on the right hand side is my kitchen:
Back out the kitchen and on the left side is the bathroom:
Out of the bathroom, turn left, and you walk straight into the bedroom:
Just left of the bedroom door is the other side of the back kitchen wall:
Turn left again and you’re in my living room!
Behind my living room is my dining room…which is still a work in progress. I’m making my own dining table…so just excuse my duct tape 🙂 It will be covered when the table is done:
Turn right and you’re back in the kitchen!
So there you have it…my new digs. Another great thing about where I live now…I face southeast so I have a great view of Chicago:
The bad thing about where I live now…I face southeast…so the summer is pretty much going to suck.
Thanks for stopping by my new place! 🙂
Good morning, readers! Instead of posting a craft today, I’m taking this time to tell you that I’ve finally opened The Hob-bee Hive store, where you can buy some of my crafts, various craft supplies, and even some of my cooking creations!
I don’t have much up now because I’m still in the creative stages of, well, creating things…but keep checking back every once in a while for new additions! Click on the bee to go shopping!
Hello! And thank you for checking out The Hob-bee Hive. I have a lot of great ideas to share with you and I’m really excited to get going!
Both for my reader’s sake and my own (more so for my own OCD problems), I came up with a plan of attack: a schedule of daily themes to help my readers know what’s coming and keep me motivated to keep writing.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Monday: Let’s start the week with some food, shall we? Join me on Mondays for recipes that are both easy in the kitchen and on your wallet. Most of them will involve the “chop n’ drop” method…saving you time and dish-washing detergent.
Tuesday: “Cupcakes and puppies and Websites with shopping…stories and craft time and ice cream with toppings…Colorful items and earrings and rings…These are a few of my favorite things!” Tune in Tuesday for my favorite weekly thing.
Wednesday: Get out that glue gun and those scissors, because Wednesday is craft day! On Wednesdays I’ll share ideas about how to decorate your living space, how to make something old turn into something new, or even how to take up a new hobby.
Thursday: What can you do with a left over egg carton? Is there any other use for coffee filters? How do I get this stubborn stain out of the rug? Join me on Thursdays to find out which common items around your house have uncommon uses that could be beneficial to you.
Friday: Friday is all about indulgence. Stop by The Hob-Bee Hive before your weekend starts for book reviews, movie suggestions, restaurant suggestions, good deals, and more.
So, there you have it. I hope you all enjoy your time here at The Hob-bee Hive and thanks again for stopping by!
